Sunrise at Pungo Creek
Saturday dawned beautifully and was a great day for a bit of a sail.  Though we have motored almost the entire way, we do try to raise at least one sail when we can, to get a boost from the wind.  After heading out of Pongo Creek at 7am, we motored down the river and enjoyed the wind on the beam filling the genoa for several miles.  Though the mornings have been quite chilly, as the sun fills the sky, we are more comfortable as the day wears on.  We entered the Neuse River that heads up to New Bern and took a left at Adam's Creek - a lovely creek lined by nice homes and lots of motor boats.

Our approach into Beaufort was "interesting".  It is a large harbor, busy port and lots of motor boats scooting to and fro.  After a little confusion at one channel merge, we finally hung a left and motored up to the drawbridge, waited a few for it to open on the half hour, then around the bend into the Beaufort Docks Marina.

What a lovely little town Beaufort, North Carolina is.  We docked right by a wide boardwalk where people can stroll and enjoy the water and boating activity.  Love that Southern Hospitality!  Everyone wanted to stop and chat, hear where we were from and make a comment about our boat.  It was a delight!

We enjoyed a land shower, and a really nice meal at the Beaufort Grocery Company.  Sunday was laundry and boat cleaning day, but we also fit in a couple hours visiting the local shops.  It was a really nice day and a town to visit again.

This morning, we pulled away from the dock at 7:15am and motored around the channels - taking a right to head into the ICW instead of a left to head out into the ocean.  It was a pretty straight and narrow ride down the waterway, but we saw some lovely sights.  The highlight had to be the two dolphins that played in our wake for about twenty minutes.  So wonderful!

We're anchored in Topsail Sound, NC. We're still in the ICW, but can hear the beach rollers over the crest of the houses and dunes. Very nice!
