Some Time on Land

Since our time in France, we have pretty much been land-living.  Poor Dream Catcher has suffered from lack of attention.  In fact, we put her to bed for a bit to give her a rest.

August was spent in Fenwick Island, Delaware at Sharon's family home.  A delight for her and a good working locale for Greg.  The month was filled with several house projects, a couple of trips to Annapolis to check on Dream Catcher while she was still on the dock, see friends, a road trip to Massachusetts for a wonderful wedding of one of daughter Courtney's childhood friends, and visits to friends and family.

While in MA, we loaded up a UHaul pod with home furnishings from our large storage unit in New Hampshire to transport them to our new place in Vero Beach.  That meant we needed to travel to Florida to meet it when it arrived.  We were also having a new roof put on the house.  So, most of September was spent in Vero Beach, working to make the house more livable, monitoring the two-week process of a new roof install, and generally working through maintenance projects.

Our installers - Christian, Mike and Rick - two of them from
Massachusetts and die-hard Pats fans! They are great guys and they did a great job!
After much discussion, weighing the pros and cons of sailing south again or storing the boat, we decided to haul Dream Catcher in Annapolis for the winter and spend the time in Florida at our new home.  So, back we came from Florida in late September and spent four days unloading anything from the boat that we felt was perishable, removing sails and canvas, winterizing the water systems and engine, loading the dingy on deck, and generally preparing her to be on the hard for the winter.  This used to be a dreaded task when we were sailing seasonally and it wasn't much happier this time.  While it is weird to be off the boat, we think we will enjoy the winter on land, hope to have lots of visits from friends, and look forward to Spring splash and sailing to New England and beyond next summer.

All that "PINK" - antifreeze that has to go into
all the fresh and salt water systems. We used nearly 40 gallons.
Dingy removed, davits folded to reduce length and therefore cost of storage!

Ready to haul
Wrapped up for winter
It has been a great summer in so many ways and we feel so fortunate to enjoy all these wonderful experiences.  Maybe we will see you in Vero, or somewhere along the way.
